Inspecting Carol – Nov 22nd, 23rd, 29th, 30th, Dec 1st, 6th, 7th, & 8th
The Tillamook Association for the Performing Arts (TAPA) & TLC Federal Credit Union are pleased to bring Inspecting Carol to Tillamook, kicking off the holiday season on November 22nd. Written by Daniel Sullivan anddirected by Chris Chiola, Inspecting Carol offers a hilarious look at the backstage antics of a community theater’s production of A Christmas Carol.
The saying “there is too much drama in the theater” comes to life when this play takes the audience on a hilarious journey as the Soapbox Theatre’s 12th annual production of A Christmas Carol hits a wall of problems with the cast, money, and a wandering out of work actor. The cast is tired of it as it’s been done with the same actors for so long that Tiny Tim has entered puberty. But the cash-cow is needed to impress an inspector from the National Endowment of the Arts into renewing their arts grant. Much like the hit play Noises Off, the audience has the pleasure of watching a motley crew of characters work through the process of producing a play and the struggles to get it past opening night. Inspecting Carol is simply about a group of founding members struggling with keeping the production fresh while dealing with egos, overacting, back-seat directing, and struggle for the spotlight all while trying to keep the patrons happy.
Inspecting Carol interjects mild adult humor for those who need a break from the hum drum holiday season. “I hope audiences will laugh themselves silly watching this play and I hope it gives people a break from the madness of the holiday season. We all need an escape from time to time and I know people will enjoy this take on A Christmas Carol. This is also an interesting look at how a theater company works with each other’s zany personalities and the behind the scenes gags and antics that bring a play to life. Those who participate in theater will recognize some familiar personality types, and those who have sat in an audience will simply enjoy a hilarious show to help prepare for the holiday season”, says director Chris Chiola, who brought to TAPA the comedies Sex Please, We’re Sixtyand Never Kiss a Naughty Nanny.
The cast, comprised of theater veterans as well as theater newbies, have been hard at work on their craft. The cast consists of Ann Harper (MJ McMann), Robert Kratz (Wayne Wellacre), Sandra Koops (Zora Boch), Croix Swanson (Luther Beatty), Sarah Edwards (Dorothy Tree Hapgood), Al Johnson (Sidney Carlton), Glen Rankin (Phil Hewlitt), Reggie Coon (Walter Parsons), Brett Duer (Kevin Emery), Richard Coon (Larry Vauxhall), Devin McDaniel (Bart Frances) and Rebecca Dougherty (Betty Andrews). Supporting the cast is a great crew consisting of RJ Wynia, Dennis Greiner, Pablo Santos, Elizabeth Rankin, Sylvia Johnson, and Tona Mortensen.
Inspecting Carolruns November 22nd, 23rd, 29th, 30thand December 1st, 6th, 7th and 8th. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:00 pm and Sunday matiness begin at 2:00 pm. Doors open one half hour prior to curtain.
