Auditions: The Octette Bridge Club
Tillamook Association for the Performing Arts (TAPA) has announced open auditions for the sentimental comedy, “The Octette Bridge Club”, written by P.J. Barry, and directed by Brenna Sage. Set in Providence, R.I., the time is 1934, and Betsy is the youngest of eight grown sisters. All but one of them has a family of her own, but every other Friday night, the Donavan girls play bridge.
They don’t just play bridge. In 1934 (Act I), they have their picture taken by a nice young man from the Providence Journal. In 1944 (Act II), they put on a little talent show for Halloween. As we all know, siblings can have personalities that run the gamut and this family is no exception.
Ten years have brought changes. Betsy has had a nervous breakdown–which nobody wants to discuss except Betsy. Martha, the oldest, can’t hear half of what’s going on, making it harder to intimidate the others. Mary, the shy one, has had a stroke. This is a charming play with roles for a variety of actresses.
TAPA is looking for eight (8) women, ranging in age from 30’s to 60’s, and one (1) young man (who only appears in the first scene) to fill the roles of this production. No previous acting experience is necessary! One of the sisters, Lil, the second to youngest must play piano and sing well, and at least one of the other sisters must play piano to accompany Lil on one song.
Auditions will be held at the TAPA’s Barn Community Playhouse, located at 1204 Ivy Ave in Tillamook, on Saturday June 4th and Sunday June 5th, starting at 2:00 pm.
Performances will run August 26th – September 10th.
