A classic story that many read as part of a high school English class, “The Great Gatsby” is a trip back to prohibition America, the roaring 1920s, and the shallowness of the nouveau rich. The stage version faithfully follows the well-known novel about the young and mysterious
Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, who passionately pursues the elusive Daisy Buchanan. Nick Carraway, a young newcomer to Long Island, is drawn into their world of obsession, greed and danger, and pens us a tale of impossible love, dreams, and tragedy.

Steele Fleisher, director, explains his passion for this play, “In life there are some stories that can surprise you. When I was first introduced to “The Great Gatsby” I was less than thrilled to be watching another sappy romance movie. Halfway through I noticed I was paying closer attention, and by the end I was hooked. I ended up thoroughly enjoying the 1974 version and reading the book, twice. The story was enchanting, and the way it was told allowed the reader to not just witness, but interact with the story and to find points of light in their own past. I hope through this experience you can feel part of the story as I first was.”
