Murder by the Book

TAPA and TLC are pleased to bring the production of Murder by the Book, written by Duncan Greenwood and Robert King, to Tillamook. It is a beautifully warm autumn evening in London as a separated couple “discusses” putting an end to their tumultuous relationship once and for all. So begins the untangling of a web of lies that has brought these characters together on this fateful evening. Every good mystery needs a villain and in this case, we’ve got at least three with passion in their hearts and revenge on their minds.

Crisp, witty exchanges pepper this lighthearted and inventive thriller directed and produced by Robert Buckingham and Chris Chiola. TJ Newton plays Selwyn Piper, a thriller writer who enjoys indulging in vitriolic word duels with his estranged actress-wifeImogen Piper, portrayed by Tami Taliaferro, who strives to give as good as she gets in their verbal battles. Jason McAlexander plays John Douglas, a longtime friend of the couple who can’t seem to say no to either of them and doesn’t comprehend the import of the deadly games they play with one another. Newcomer to TAPA, Micah Smith plays the neighbor and fan with ulterior motives PETER FLETCHER. Amy Rangel rounds out the cast playing CHRISTINE SCOTT, the conniving secretary with a clever little secret.

There are many charming points to Murder by the Book, including its setting in a typical flat in London and the characters who live, work, and visit there. It is a treat not only to watch these characters and their hilarious emotional roller coasters, but also to peer into the inner workings of a downward-spiraling relationship between two sharp-witted and sharp-tongued people. The twists, turns and surprises that make this whodunit such a fun journey to be a part of continue right up to the jaw-dropping ending that will keep everyone wondering.

Performances will be held at the Barn Community Playhouse at 12th and Ivy in Tillamook at 7:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from June 5 through June 20 with one matinee on Sunday, June 14 at 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $9 for seniors and students, and a family four-pack can be purchased for $35.
